Don’t know anything about EURO 2020? Read this.

The Euro 2020 tournament is currently ongoing, and it’s been spectacular so far! From a screamer goal by Czech Republic’s Patrik Schick to Poland’s Wojciech Szczesny making history by becoming the first goalkeeper credited with an own goal, to…

…Wait, you guys have seen it, right? No? You don’t know what we’re on about? You’re just not into football? It’s okay! Many of us are still getting hyped for the Euros even though we’re not usually footy fans.

Trying to fit in with the 1-month long football conversations with friends and family might make you wish you were born wearing a jersey. It’s okay; we’ve got you covered with everything you need to know about the Euros so you can tell your Uronen from your Ozdoev.

Why is it called Euro 2020, not Euro 2021?

While the event was originally scheduled for last year, the global pandemic kicked it down the line to 2021. UEFA has decided to keep the name, stating that this would “serve to remember how the whole football family came together to respond to the extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic and the difficult times Europe and the world had to go through in 2020.”

Where’s Euro 2020 happening?

Due to logistics and capacity reasons, the Euros will be taking place across London, Rome, Saint Petersburg, Baku, Munich, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Glasgow, and Seville. This is the first time in the tournament’s history that 11 cities across the continent will host the tournament.

Which team should I support for Euro 2020?

You do you! With that saaaaid…

Reigning World Cup champion France enters Euro 2020 as the top favourite, with the most complete and balanced squad on the field. Other nations to watch out for include Belgium (No. 1 in the current FIFA rankings) and previous European champions, Portugal.

What if I want to support a wildcard team?

As surprising as this might sound, England could just be the dark horse this time around. They have all the qualified players who’ve won countless trophies for their respective clubs, but they will have to put aside all club rivalries and work together as a team for their country.

Who are the underdogs?

Another surprise here would be Italy. The 2006 World Cup winners didn’t qualify for the 2018 World Cup, so they’ll be going all out to prove that the Azzurri shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Which teams are likely to go far in this tournament?

It’s hard to say as of right now, but it won’t be a surprise if one of the big teams from Group F sees a shocking exit. The group includes three big hitters: Portugal, France & Germany.

Who else should I be watching? I only know Ronaldo…

Hardly anyone doesn’t know about the Euros’ top joint scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo. But as he’s approaching his final years in his football career, it’s time to look at the next big stars of this tournament.

France’s Kylian Mbappé was just a teen on Les Bleus when they won the 2018 World Cup – and he scored four goals to bag the Kopa Trophy for best young player of the year. Now,this Paris Saint-Germain forward is ready to lead the charge for France.

With impressive displays for Tottenham and Inter Milan, respectively, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku look to continue this form in the Euro 2020.

Phil Foden is one of England’s rising stars. If he could bring the same impressive display he did for Manchester City as they won the Premier League, then he’s someone that you don’t want to miss.
