We’ve got some suggestions for an amazing art weekend in KL that you simply can’t miss!

Go nuts for bamboo

giphy 4

This will be a weekend to remember for anyone who loves bamboo! Come down to the Bamboo House and The Godown KL to feast your eyes on bamboo sculptures, art and installations, learn how to make your own miniature bamboo creations, and catch performances from local duo Kicau Bilau, the Bamboo Sound Art ensemble, and bamboo saxophonist Phillipus Jani–all played on (yes) bamboo instruments. Any more bamboo in one place, and it’ll start growing out your ears.

Learn from local laureates

nov4

It’s not every day you see four National Laureates (some of whom were even in our KOMSAS books back in the day) come together for a chat on their experiences in the Malay literature scene. Join Prof. Emeritus Dr. Muhammad Haji Salleh, Dato’ Dr. Mohd. Anwar bin Rethwan, Datuk Dr. Zurinah binti Hassan and Datuk Dr. Siti Zainon binti Ismail for an enlightening evening on local creativity and expression, all at Panggung Bandaraya.

Find new green friends

nov5

For one weekend only, Pasar Seni is hosting a Collectors Plants Market for green thumbs everywhere. Along with firm favourites like philodendrons, caladiums and monstera, you may also encounter rarer, more enchanting finds for your balcony, garden or greenhouse. Check them out at Kasturi Walk from 10 am – 7 pm, 27 – 28 November.

Watch a local award-winning animation

nov6

If you’re dying to catch some local fare that’s a little out of the norm, turn your eyes to the silver screen! REXKL will be screening two animated shorts over the weekend: the international award-winning Batik Girl and The Dalang’s Tale. Director Irwan Junaidy will also be on hand for a QnA session after the screenings. After staring at the four walls of your house for months on end, you deserve to enjoy these animated masterpieces instead. You know you waaaaant tooooo…

Experience a multimedia art exhibition at…Muzium Telekom?

nov7

The Traverse – Motions Through Time exhibition gathers the combined efforts of MMU students, faculty and alumni with additional showcases by TM R&D and TM ONE. You’ll experience a mind-bending journey through the past, present and future across four chapters: ENTER, INTER(IN)VENTION, RETROSPECT, and EXPERIENCE. And along the way, ponder the burning question of the entire event: how do historical shifts in perception reflect our beliefs in the function of these institutions?

The museum will also be hosting the Gutta Percha Trail Exhibition, Art4Love, the NEWSANTARA NFT launch and other telecommunication innovations.
